An appendix cancer
survivor, Lynda, found my web site and contacted me. She was upset that there
were no appendix cancer ribbons available anywhere. The color for appendix
cancer ribbons is amber. She knew everyone understood that pink
ribbons symbolized breast cancer awareness, but what about those of us who want
to promote appendix
cancer awareness?
Lynda made the first
100 ribbons, which were gone within a few weeks.
I have since purchased thousands of yards of ribbon, multiple
glue guns, thousands of pins and lots of bubble envelopes and stamps. It's my family's new manufacturing project!
I'm trying to keep up with the demand....my kids teenage friends are even being
recruited for ribbon-making (and "field trips" to buy supplies:-).
We've distributed several thousand ribbons to date.
If you'd like appendix cancer ribbons, email me your name and address at:
If anyone would like to
contribute to the ribbon cause, donations are now accepted to help me with the
purchase of ribbon supplies and shipping. I get many requests every week
and the
project has cost several hundred dollars to date. Thanks to those
who have already donated! For those
who would like to make their own
ribbons, the color most closely matching the amber color needed is called Old
Gold, I buy satin 3/8 inch ribbon. The pins I use can be purchased at
Michaels or Walmart.
